why is it that we have so many super heroes (males) but we have never heard of a super heroine(female)?

hey u have cat woman, wonderwoman, the black cat from the spider man cartoons, the one fro the ex men , the one from fantastic 4, the one from ultraviolet or whatever that film was called, the one in terminator 3, april from the ninja turtles she was always running aroud with them saving the planet from shredder and craing
