AJ Styles has been NWA Champion 3 times!
He had in June 2003
April of 2004
and May of 2005 that's it.

AJ Styles is a two time NWA World Heavyweight Champion, this was before TNA became big in primetime or ever moved to Spike TV, and before the six sided ring. I watched one match where he was under the wing of Vince Russo and teamed with Sean Waltman and took on Jeff Jarret and Sting in a tag match, and Raven even showed up at the end of the match. Was a great match for huge TNA fans.

As some others have said, he is indeed a 3 time champion.
If he never was the champion though, that's if, it would be because the company didn't want him to be champion. It's all, unfortunately for the most part, scripted.
