Racists are everywhere and I will leave it at that...But I will say that most Germans that I met there were for the most part are friendly. The language barrier is the hardest thing to get over when you arrive there and don't speak German.
About if Germans felt remorse from WWII? I had a German friend that was married to an American and she said that it brought shame and embarrassment onto the country and they tought about it in schools to the children, so their past isn't hush hush over there. I feel that they are quite open with their opinions of what happened during the War and of Americans serving over there now.
Their roads and Autobahn are great and well maintained and when we arrived there we had to take a drivers ed course to learn the rules of driving in Germany and Europe in general and when we passed we got a special military DL that was different than what a German citizen would carry. They also have an awesome recycling program that was mandatory that I actually missed having access to when we moved back to the States.
The country is breaktakingly beautiful and clean I feel that the German people take care of their towns almost better than some in the US. I would like to someday go back and travel more than we did when we were there the first time.

I think many people have many different attitudes. Some good and some not so good. As for many Germans still being racist, I am sure some are, as are other nationalities. I for one have just, quite by accident met a German man (one who helped me and my husband out when we were burgled). He has become one of our closest friends. He is a very kind person, and one I am honoured to call my friend. He is not racist in any way shape or form. I can only speak as I find.

Ive been there and maybe the 50 yr olds and older generation are a bit but if thats really true then they'd killed-disowned their daughters and granddaughters and great grandaughters for marrying black service and turkish men to get out of the country. Not to offend anyone, but I've never seen such a interracial country like Germany next to the usa in my life.

You will find racists in any modern western country.
The Germans had a lot of their feelings of superiority knocked out of them in WWII.
If you are talking about neo-facists, I would guess there are less percentage of them in - say - Dusseldorf, than in an equivalent city in England or the US midwest.

No, Germans are nice and tolerant - at least that was my impression when I visited the country. My son is studying there and has also never felt any bad attitude.

No I've never been verbally attacked for speaking English in Germany, but I have been verbally attacked for speaking German in England and so have my daughters. I'm British, but I was in England with a South American friend. German is our common language.

There are racists and bigots living right next door to you. Why not in Germany, too? The world love to divide up into US and THEM. US is good, THEM is bad.

I don't know, I went to Germany and everyone treated me fine!

I've seen a lot of racism here in US and also in UK though.
