I tend to believe it means, you are talking without thinking; there is no logic in what you are saying. Your words came out spontaneously, without thinking, not from inside your head. Hence the idiom "through your hat".

It means talking about something and it is clear that you don't actually know anything about that subject. The same as, 'Talking out of the back of your head.'

It means they're talking nonsense.

It's also called "talking out of your bottom" (but a synonym that is filtered here - three letters, starts with "a", ends with "s").

sometimes peoplev say talking through you as s. it means to say something silly or illogical
