We know that democracy is the most popular pattern for the formation of the government with in the globe because all of the persons have been taking part for the formation of the government. And this method satisfied the people.
But in our country (India) there are no any basic qualification specified by our constitution, it was an issue 50 years ago. But for the viewing current scenario basic qualification should be must of the politicians. With the lack of qualification many time they have been taking wrong decision and they have no more idea regarding development of the country because they are fully depended on the other. Today due to globalisation whole world came together and due to lack of education they have no proper idea and knowledge for that and they fail to take proper decision.
Therefore I think that if politician will be educated then they will provide great contribution for the development of the country. They will be idea what is right and wrong.
So basic qualification should be must for the politician.

SSC for Village Panchayat, Std XII for Municipalities, Degree for Corporations and Legislative ASSEMBLIES AND COUNCILS AND POSTGRADUATION FOR PARLIAMENT would be desirable. But Degrees are no guarantee for Integrity or efficiency. If the candidates have some good grasp of the basics, they can avoid being taken for a ride by the Bureaucrats.
I would suggest a better alternative. As and when a person is elected to a law making body he/she should be mandatorily provided with a thorough training in the affairs of that level of Government. Those appointed to become Ministers, Leader of the Opposition, etc. should be sent to a College of higher learning like the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, or the Centre for Advanced Studies, at Government expenses.

I would love to see just one reason why our elected representatives shouldn't have minimum basic educational qualifications, a graduation degree at least. A peon, chowkidar or other assorted Group 'D' Government servants have to possess at least a pass certificate upto class VIII or matriculation pass certificate. Why should people entrusted with the highly reponsible task of decision making for this country and its people be allowed without basic academic qualifications? Is it to give uneducated, illiterate and corrupt politicians a chance to loot the country? Shameful indeed.

Politicians should of course have some basic qualifications. I don't mean academic qualifications. They should have a basic knowledge of the countries history and cultural heritage and they should be aware of the territorial limits of the country. They should also be aware of the basic principles of our constitution. Then there should be the all important instinct of tolerance and understanding also. The academic qualification is immaterial.

Yes. There should be registration for candidates. This should be regulary updated. Only registered candidates should be allowed to participate in elections. This will save last minute checking by election officer. This can be called RAC. Educational qualifications should NOT be necessary for any election. There can be few basic steps for enrollment.

The same qualifications that it takes to cast a vote are all the qualifications that a candidate needs.
American Citizen
Able to make choices.
I think there is a level of sanity that is agreed upon to vote, but I am not certain that Candidates have to meet this qualification.

Yes, it is mandatory, not only basic qualifications, but they must have proficiency and command in that particular subject, since they are leading crores of people. Then only, Indian politics will become stronger and also there will not be any imbalance in the ruling and the era will become golden era, if such thing happens.

Dear
The real question is: who will bell the cat.
It is positive to think of some basic guidelines, may be not limited by education, yet the real problem is that the decision to carry such an initiative to any logical conclusion lies with disinterested.
Else you may possibly, be not thinking of this...

Most politicians have more education and qualifications than you can shake a stick at. It doesn't mean that they will exercise good judgement (notice the word judge). Also, just because we don't agree with them does not mean they are stupid, gimp-like, or inane.
