also, are there any restrictions or hassles when trying to cash the larger dollar amounts? what would you say would be the limit to be ''hassle-free''?

Henry B, i found out today that i can get them at my bank for free & there's no limit. you must be out of the U.S. (?)

The Web site below tell you a little about traveler's checks. I myself get them at AAA.If you are member you get them fairly cheap.If your going to Europe you might want to purchase them in Euros to avoid any conversion fees. No matter where you get them $1000 is the max you can buy. You will have to wait 2 weeks to purchase more.I guess it's to stop money laundering.P.S most banks sell them but their fees are quite high.
