Yes to a degree. Carter allowed the good guys in Iran to be overthrown. Clinton ignored the problem for 8 years. Pres Bush Sr should have taken out Saddam the first time.

is this one of those.. "the whole middle east is jimmy carter's fault" things?
how about actually placing some responsibility on the terrorists and the crazy wackos for once instead of trying to blame everything on the dems...
and, just a quick history lesson... Islam has been radical before America was even formed, much less the American democratic party?
why don't you just blame them for Genghis Khans Mongol invasions, the viking plundering and the crusades while your at it...
unless there is a time machine involved... it seems far from obvious to me...

I agree with this - it is obvious.
It is also obvious that the new strategy in Iraq is all about taking it to them before it gets taken to our men and women. Adding 20,000 troops is surely enough to defeat the ill-trained and illprepared militia's and "freedom fighters".
Bush is just doing an end around to trap the Dem's into thinking they are making a difference and give him long enough to clean up the mess and get the boys home by 2008.....just in time for the Republicans to sweep the 08 Elections and ride gloriously into the promised land......
That's how it works, right??

That is one of the sillier statements I've heard in years. It was under Eisenhower we deposed the Prime Minister of Iran and put in our puppet the hated Shah. It was under Reagan we armed, trained and supported Saddam. Both Bush's have attacked Iraq and Dubbya has added Afghanistan to the list. It was under Reagan/Bush and now Defense Sec. Gates that we funded and trained Osama and Al Qaida to fight against the Russians and kept them on the payroll. And all our leaders Republican and Democrat have supported Israel to the great irritation of the Arab World. But to blame Democrats for radical Islam is patently absurd. If anything should be blamed for the radicalization of Islam, it is the worldwide lust for oil coming from developed nations who were willing to do anything, and often did, to the Middle East in order to have access to their oil. We have done our part, but were enthusiastically joined by the likes of Britain, France, Israel, Russia, and others in the ruthless exploitation of the region, their politics, and their people. It is not a pretty story, and one worth our understanding if we are ever going to solve the problems of the Middle East.
