When I first got Maya my cat she was sick, she was feral, outside, we got her fixed and tested for diseases, found she had Feline Leukemia, so I took her in and got her back to health, she was so skinny, but now she is healthy, had her since 1999, then I got some more, all ferals and got them all fixed and tested, they are all fine. Then Jody was cruely abandoned and crying outside when she was a kitten, some idiot dropped her off and just kept going, so I took her in and got her vet help and had her fixed and tested, all with shots too, and now they are all happy together, they all are related, except for Jody, but you would not know it by the way Jody plays with the others. It is neat. :)

We have three dogs and four cats.

The only ones we actually sought out for were the two cats that we started with from the humane society.

One cat I saved from traffic and when I called on her tags they were outdated.

Another cat belonged to the downstairs neighbor who turned into a tweaker and abandoned the kitten. While we were out of town the landlord put the kitten in our house because she knew we had food and litter and we weren't crackheads.

My sister brought the first dog and then left him.

The other two dogs just showed up. One walked in the front door and jumped on the couch and said "Hey I'm Home!". The other appeared in the back yard overnight mysteriously.

You know how in the movie Blade the vampire safe houses have those glyphs that only the vampires can see? I think we have an abandoned pet glyph that the animals can see and it says "Come here! They're suckers and they have good food!"

We have four dogs at our house. I will only talk about mine.
If I wrote about all four you'd get a novella rather than a short story. ; )

I got my dog from his breeder. I love dachshunds and wanted someone who bred them because they love the breed.
This lady is even crazier about them than I am (dachshunds rival books and tea as my most serious forms of dementia).
My boy was the best socialized dog I'd ever met.
I contacted his breeder about a long-haired chocolate female. She referred me to her web page so that I could learn more about her. She mentioned that some of her pups were pictured there. And lo...there was this really cheeky looking little male who looked either piebald or dappled...so much for my dream. Three days later "Puppy" and I met for the first time. I have been his sun and moon. He has been the best dachshund who has ever owned me (he is the eighth dachshund to be mine in a 43 year period). We are so thrilled with each other that after nearly 3.5 years I thank my husband on a regular basis for agreeing to letting me have another dog!

The End.

A friend and I were walking (stoned) in a raging snow storm about 1 in the morning in Massacusetts. Why, because we could (again...stoned). And came upon a tiny kitten in the middle of an 8" deep snow-covered street. No tracks anywhere, car or human. It fit in the palm of my hand it was so small. I took it back home and as we were sitting around (getting stoned) he kept the smoking utensil to himself, I told him to quit Bogarting. Thus, Humphrey Bogart the Kat was named! Humphrey lived to be 13 in human years and never had glaucoma! This was quite some time ago, when I was much, much younger. But felt it was a deserving story.

My cat I owned his mom, she had two kittens one died. He was the only survivor. Mom kitty went crazy. So I kept him and he is the biggest smooshy lover ever. The puppy, I just went to a breeder that the pet store had referred me to. She was the only female left. She wanted to be with the people more than play with her brothers. So I paid cash right then and there. She is smooshy too. I guess I have thing for smooshy pets. The cat is a grey short hair and the pup is a Boston Terrier. They are like my children. Next one will be one that I rescue.

Well! My daughter had a friend who lost thier home and had to find homes for all of their pets. My daughter took in one of the dogs. She was spayed and then got pregnaunt by a neighboring chichichua and had 6 puppies. As time passed, the friends resettled and wanted the dog back. So, they got her + 1 puppy. We found homes for all of the others but 2 of them. They stayed and have been here ever since.

My husband always fancied having a border collie and I just made fun of the idea-- everyone knows that border collies are hyper and require at least four brisk walks a day. Well, my friend's daughter's dog was about to whelp and one of the pups was this adorable little Border Collie cross (also Poodle and terrier). Yeah, she IS hyper, but she is also very sweet.

I got my Charlie (3 yr. old pekingese) from a pet store. He had been "returned" twice already because of one family's allergies and another lady didn't tell her husband she was getting him. And my Gizmo (1 year old pekingese) just walked up into my parent's garage one day and we never found his owners so we kept him. They are the best.
