For instance, why is there a "women's studies" section and not a "men's studies" section. If the tables were turned, some of us women would have a fit and start a petition.

Why is it that in seeking out our rights to be treated equally ( which are definetly our rights) so many women see the need to push it further and make us "better"? It seems to me that some women are not looking for equality but superiority to the male gender.

Does anyone else see this trend? Just my rambling thoughts... looking for other imput and let's be nice and thoughtful.

NO STUPID ANSWERS please.

There is a "Women's Studies" section here and also the subject is studied in college because women have been considered the inferior and weaker sex, usually with no rights, for centuries.
Men have always been the dominant sex, in charge of everything.
Women have had to fight for certain rights, such as voting and reproductive rights, and men have not. So Women's Studies is actually a history of women.

Women still don't have equality, especially in the workplace as well as pay issues. There are certain jobs that are still considered for males only.

Women still have some issues to contend with for equality. I don't think it's a matter of superiority. But since everything has been considered paternal for centuries, women have been considered to have more to prove.

I'll try to make this not a stupid answer....In this day of increasing change of values, we are much more prone to demand things not associated with our past culture or norm. Women have every right to demand equality with men, as long as they know that a woman (Eve) was created to be a partner for the man. That does not mean that men can do what they want with their mate, but in our culture, and the Christian religion, a woman must be subservient to the man, but a man must be the head of a woman. Headship implies that men are responsible for the nurturing of a woman, and to be understanding and compassionate, knowing full well that the woman is a blessing to a man, created soley for him as a partner that fullfills the need for a man to not be alone. There is a implication here of equality, but different purpose.

Now you have finished it. you have opened a can of worms which will make all and sundry argue continuously. in basic terms settle for that that's how that's, and study to toss that motorcycle around. regardless of what human beings are asserting right here approximately counter steerage at fifty 5 or 30 mph, the certainty is everywhere above 10mph, to coach quickly, you could counter steer. in basic terms pass out to a huge parking zone and attempt it. Edit: Pappy, you don't understand what you're talking approximately. there is not any "hip approach." You push the cope with bars, era. Ever puzzled why your motorcycle is so gradual dealing with at velocity? it relatively is on the grounds which you don't understand what you're doing. pass refer to Rossi and ask him if he pushes the bar going 150mph or makes use of the "hip approach."

This is a difficult situation, as women can never have equality, since at the end of the day, we are the ones who do have to bear the children and so our lives are still based around that reality.

However, feminism is set up to promote better conditions and opportunities for the weaker sex, as truly women are physically weaker.

Given that in society there are those born at a disadvantage - financially, physically or in terms of position and potential - it is our responsibility, as a society responsible for the well-being and social harmony of its members, to ensure that everyone is given the same opportunities to excel.

White men have a natural advantage in our current Western-dominated world over others. This is why there are special interest groups set up catering to most other people - to ensure that they have the same chances to excel as those who are born with a natural disadvantage.

The reason men's studies don't exist is because it is not thought that men need an extra advantage to excel when they are already dominant. It is possible that the reasoning is somewhat errant, and that by having these kinds of studies, we might gain ways of communicating better with men and solving their problems. But men do not need help to succeed in life, as they do have a natural advantage through things such as their physical strength, and their ability to pursue a career or other interests unhindered by the burdens of childhood etc.

You raise a very relevant point. There can never be equality between the sexes because men will never give birth, have periods or dedicate 12-18 months to breastfeeding their babes! I think we need to concentrate more on what it means to be female, or male, rather than trying to outdo the other sex. It's not a competition at all, we need to create a balance between the two and that can only be achieved when we acknowledge the traits that are unique to each sex, as well as those that can be shared. I think it is relevant now to refer to that saying "cutting off one's nose to spite the face"? Geez I hope I have made sense ... been enjoying a few reds this evening ...

I believe that women should be given respect.

But equality can be a really difficult scenario.

An example is, I open car doors for my female friends, or help them put on their jacket or let them out first on the elevator, coz I believe on chivalry.

Now if women would be treated the same like men, then the existence of such preferences will not be tolerated.

What I see is that men have seen the convenience of having proffessional women around, and some have decided to just lay back and let the woman do everything for them. I'm sure that wasn't the whole idea of our development as proffessionals, but that's how they see it. And because of those men (won't say all because it would be unfair), women have seen the need to throw them off the scene because they're useless.

I for example, got married to a total loser without knowing he was. Had to divorce when I found out. Now I'm one of those women who feel the need to be, not superior but self sufficient because no man will give me what I need. I'm over-qualified now. I do everything myself. I don't see the need for a man in my life except for maybe sex, and even that can be replaced or supressed. Maybe there's a good one out there. But I'm so biased by my experience that I fail to see him. Besides, he'd feel useless since I do everything now.

Looks like there are many of us out there and I'm glad to see that youre not being completely shouted down by feminists. From the subtle things, like no mens studies, to the more significant things, like mans loss of rights when a woman is pregnant with his child. There are many, many places where gender equaity still needs work and many of those things are needed to be done in favour of men to have true equality.

There is a petition to yahoo already started in favour of changing this sections name to gender studies. Maybe youd like to sign it, and anyone else who reads this question and wants to actively do SOMETHING about this inequality before it goes even further and men lose out in even more ways. A journey begins with one step as we all know, lets take that step.

maybe one day we will get bored and tired of slaughtering the
s h i t out of each other because we are white black male female slant eyed round eyed male female this side of the fence that side of the fence rich poor smart educated simple uneducated straight gay tall short etc etc etc and we will explore the avenues of one world one people one person and our differences will take on some new meaning that we cannot view from the present point of views we are fighting for which is valueless and making this world a hell for so many!

Maybe one day when we have had our fill of righteously blindly torturing ourselves!
