I go to school at Oklahoma State University and I have a lot of Sooner "fans" talk crap to me all of the time. My own brother-in-law and I have even stopped talking because I refused to hear him bash my school. Now, I haven't run across many OU graduates talk crap, its usually the "fans". Do people not understand that these places are actual universities? What do you say to someone who says your school sucks when they are really talking about a sports team? How do you not get upset when they aren't even college graduates and are just "fans"? I cheer for my team and my team only when they play. I don't boo the other team, like many other "fans" do. I guess my question is: How can they talk crap about something you are a part of, when they aren't a part of anything?

As you said, though, they're hating on your school's teams, their athletic program, the public face of the school.
I'd just laugh at them and ask "You hate the Cowboys so much? when did you find out I was their new quarterback!?! Dolt!"
I love any fan who has NO affiliation with the team or sport acting as if they are on the team themselves. And its just as weird with College sports, if not more. I mean, there IS regional pride, but if you don't go to college, or have not gone to college, or the school your at doesnt have a div I or II program, how do you pick!?!
You pick by choosing the most succesfull one in the State and become a fair weather homer! Hence all the Ohio State "fans" here in Ohio, Texas in uhhh Texas, your beloved Sonner-fans, etc.
Just laugh in there face, maybe ask them how there schools program for your major stacks up to their "school's" program.

It is called loyalty to sports a school sponsors. Athletes are actually humans playing sports and trying to do their best to represent their school and bring a higher recognition for allowing them to participate.
