You have our own reasoning inserted in the question.
On the other hand to answer you: you can have a beer and not a joint because one is legal and the other is not.
To answer why one is legal and the other is not has to do with the socio-cultural development, and economics. There are no "joint" industry in the country to lobby in congress to make it legal. However there is a Huge beer industry and lobbyist who can make sure that weed remains illegal. The obvious reasoning is if a joint was legal this would cause the "substituition effect" i.e people will spend more on joint than on beer and the beer industry will end up losing beillions, hence they put millions to the lobbyist to make sure that beer is legal and a joint is not.
In terms of what is worse...both in excess has the same effect and in moderation might not have an adverse effect.
Is it fair to make one legal and the other not, depends on your own judgement but objectively speaking studies would show that if one takes into account the causal-effect and healt issues this indeed is unfair.

those days 'K2/Spices' are out on the line which many youthful babies smoke. Its in reality man made marijuana yet really undesirable because of all the chemical compounds further. One joint can carry out slightly severe mind harm with those issues. ingesting also has its disadvantages yet its likely extra useful to drink some beers over smoking a joint. actual, just about anybody tries weed once of their existence and that i do not imagine it truly is incorrect yet even as your continuously doing it, it would want to become a difficulty.

The reason is not psychological. It's economical.
The current situation:
The alcohol industry is one that is extremely regulated. From the day alcohol was brought in to the United States it has been taxed. The government makes hoardes of money off of alcohol sale. Alcohol is fairly complicated to produce therefore it is easily regulated.
Marijuana, on the other hand, is extremely easy to produce and can be raised in all sorts of environments. The industry is nearly impossible to regulate. The government can't tax an industry that they can't control. If the government doesn't benefit then it's not going to allow it to be legal.
The past situation:
For many years the government was led to believe that marijuana was a gateway drug. People associated it's use as a first step to trying harder drug. Although science has proved marijuana to be non-addicting and low-risk to health compared to alcohol and tobacco the stigma has stayed.

If you're going to be driving, do not drink or smoke. Both alcohol and marijuana slow your reaction time and can impair your concentration and judgment.
As for liquor being worse than weed, I agree. Nobody dies from weed. When you stop smoking weed, you don't have withdrawal symptoms (other than perhaps some mild irritability), unlike alcoholics who shake and sweat during withdrawal. Marijuana being illegal while tobacco and alcohol are legal never made any sense to me.

The government agrees that liquor + driving = accidents, that's why they have that "buzzed driving is drunk driving" slogan out right now. But yeah, I must concede that I am with you on the legalization of weed since we could regulate it and tax the hell out of everyone while freeing up some jail space.... send some honest people with bad habits back home.

Both are bad, but it´s not convenient for the goverment to ban drinking since most people do and banning it would cause problems. Weed is not so demanded, so it´s easier for them to ban it.
