you dint mention how fast is it like 1.8 ghz
whenever you sell this all u need to do is the recovery process or reformat the computer so all ur personal gets erased.
but if u sell it on ebay u will be getting less than half of ur buying price.
it also depends how good it works and the pictures u put online.

As the first answer said, check eBay. Do a search for the specific model you have and on the left side of the page, check "completed items" which then shows you what systems like yours recently sold for. Adjust for slight differences in configuration and condition and you can get a pretty good idea what it's worth.

As for your data. The easiest (if you're not getting a new system) is to copy it all to CDs or DVDs and store them carefully. I'd make 2 copies of everything at a low burn speed (for better reliability) and keep one copy at a different location.

Laptop prices are so low these days, I don't hear of people buying used anymore here. But I am sure you can sell it. But have in mind Dell have been known to their battery over heating problem and this might be a reason for the price to go lower.

If you can make sure your laptop does not have that, and you can prove it, that would help.

Probably about half that price. Do some research on eBay and find out.
