Why does American Idol recruit challenged people for their show and then tear them apart, ridicule them and make fun of them? Please tell me this is all staged ....
It's one thing to make fun of the way they sing, but they're making fun of their looks. I think they're going way too far and I think that is so cruel.

Hey JCameron,
You must have read my mind, because that's the main scene I was talking about. I was floored too, I couldn't believe Simon was making fun of this kids eyes. He pretty much said he was a monkey. Simon is a real jerk.

I agree with some of your sentiments; however I do not think the guy was mentally challenged. He seemed OK that way to me..he seemed to have a very good personality. I do think the heavy guy he befriended may have been mentally challenged but I thought parts of his singing was pretty good (he did mess up some parts). He kind of lisped while talking and I did not expect him to be as good as he was. At least they weren't totally rude to him. The monkey comment was totally out of line and the guy handled it pretty well. I was impressed but I do not think he was mently challenged..the show definitely was trying to make fun of them.

Please, please go to my answers here as I think what I have to say though long addresses a lot of things inclusing the dangers of doing things like this..just scroll down to Janie's answers here

It is cruel in some cases, but I suppose that people were polled somewhere, and the cruelty was what they wanted. However, I don't believe these people are being recruited, they're volunteers who are being exploited, and once in a great while it pays off. There were a couple of commercials made using a couple not-so-gifted singers. As for making fun of someone's looks, it happens every day all over America. Of course, you're watching the edited auditions, not all of them.

If your are speaking of last nights episode when Simon made fun of the kid with the creepy big eyes, I was completely floored and felt like American Idol had crossed the line.

I don't think they recruit challenged people. They just recruit people, period. Where are the families of these people who make fools out of themselves?

At least they sign waivers and KNOW what they're getting into. They've seen what happens to some people. Some may be delusional, and I agree that it's mean to do that to people.

However, I can't stand Rosie. She attacks people all the time on TV and they're people who did not ask to be attacked. They did not sign wavers to have her slander them on TV. So why does she think she has the right to do that, and yet she criticizes others?

Rosie needs to be fired. I can't stand her.

i felt bad when simon criticizes the red shirt guy that he looks like one living in the jungle (pertaining to a monkey). - its so inhuman to judge a person by his physical feature, they didn't even commented on his talent. but, we just have to accept there were lot of people really wanted to be seen on TV and just wanting to give it a try and show their talent. I do wish to people who are taking chances must admit from themselves if they think its really worth to try or live life in simplest way.

Because if you paid a hundred bucks for a couple of tickets to see that person on stage you would say the same thing and demand your money back. It is the business they work in. tonight on Conan O'brien and I quote "In the news reports have it that Britney Spears is pregnant again. People watching her get into her car could see her cervix was dialated." This is the kind of treatment they can expect should they win the contest.

"challenged" - i didn't find any of these people to be challenged, just with singing.

people look different, and are unique. do you think that kid with the big eyes was challenged? i don't think so i just think he had big eyes.

the producers are looking for people who look unique, not just the standard run of the mill people. that is what brings in ratings. yeah it is a sick thing, but all these people sign forms and know what they are getting into.

It is all for the ratings. Unfortunately, most people crave drama, and laugh when they see people being made fun of like that. I think it's disgusting, and it shouldn't be allowed, but there's not much you can do. If they keep getting the viewers for it, they'll keep doing what they're doing..
