Marriage is not mandatory. Having some happiness in your life is mandatory. That is what life is about, my friend. Don't worry about your relatives all pressuring you to get married and have kids. Settle down when you are ready to settle down. Until then, be happy, have fun, and live YOUR life. That is the one thing you can control.

Mandatory for whom and when and where?
I don't personally think it is at all mandatory for anything.
But some religious people would disagree with me and in a lot of places gay couples can't get married so it's definitely not mandatory universally for a relationship.
great wide open question :-)

Mandatory for whom? Where? No, not that I know of in the U.S. or anywhere else for that matter. It's certainly encouraged by families and people with traditional cultural views, but not mandatory.

Marriage is a contract. This differentiate human beings from other animals. Actually, it is an irreversible contract. The contract does not provide for diverse. If the contract is strictly followed, there will not be any trouble. Living together without contract is okey but it should be a irreversible unwritten contract.

believe it or not there are still states where it is illegal to live with someone unless you are married, so i guess if you wanted to live with your girl/boy friend, and you lived in one of those states, then marriage would be mandatory.
