With my son it was between 4 and 5 months. We traveled that summer to the Carolinas and brought a big piece of cotton gauze fabric because he was not good at sleeping unswaddled.

"The Happiest Baby on the Block" was a lifesaver of a book and it is a great guide to swaddling and other calming techniques.

I have a 4 month old who thrived on being swaddled and slept through the night from 8 weeks. He just started to roll over and we cant swaddle anymore but he has turned into a horrible sleeper now that he is not swaddled and cant have blankets due to SIDS. While I think swaddling is great you don't want a baby to get accustomed to something that eventually has to be taken away.

I did a complete swaddle on my daughter for about a month and a half, then she always fought it - she wanted her arms out. So I swaddled her, leaving her arms free after that. By 3 months, she didn't even want to be swaddled, so I stopped. I am now 25 weeks pregnant with #2, plan to swaddle again, we'll see how much this baby likes it :)

Chris C is nuts don't listen to him/her. I swaddled both my boys for about 3-4 months. There's a difference between swaddling and bounding them.... Just do it as long as you feel comfortable and the baby does also. If he/she is kicking out of it and crying then they may not like it anymore.
Good luck and congrats!!

There's nothing wrong with swaddling your baby. It will not have a negative effect on them.

It's best to stop swaddling once they start rolling - esspecially if they can roll from back to tummy. It's important to make sure that they don't smother themselves with the blanket, too. When my son was about two months old, he would try to wiggle his arms free, and the blanket would end up over his face.

Overall, I would say it's probably best to stop around two months, but it depends on how active your baby is.

I swaddled my little girl until she was about 3 months old. Your baby will let you know when it doesn't want to be wrapped anymore he/she will wiggle out of it.

We swaddled for the first two months, and after that it was too warm (middle of July!) so we started using lightweight cotton "bag" sleepers. It does make a difference...babies need the comfort of being wrapped up tight!

My daughter was swaddled for two weeks then she could sleep without it. But during her third month, I had to do it again for about two weeks and she got out of it again.
