I have some downloaded pictures in my PC, am wondering how to transfer them to a disc, to prevent losing them if my PC crashes. I have the following on my "Tower"...It's equipped with a CD Writer/DVD-ROM combo. Now, WHAT kind of disc do I insert to save pictures on? Can you burn pictures on a CD? Or do I have to use a "DVR" disc? Please help, I don't know much about computers, and have some family pics I want to save, in case my PC goes haywire....What is the difference between a CD, A DVR, And A DVD disc? Which one is right for "burning" pictures from my computer's "picture" file? Thanks...

Based on the hardware your computer has, you can only use CDs to store your picture files. And it is also probably thrifty if you used CDs to store pictures, because DVDs cost a lot more than CDs. CDs are ~700MB in size, while DVDs are anywhere from 4.5GB to 9GB. Back in the day, CDs were used to store anything and everything, but now DVDs are much bigger and can hold more, which explains why they have supplanted CDs as storage mediums. However, unless you have > 1 GB of pictures, using a CD is the wiser choice. Like the person above said, DVDs are used to store movies (among other things that are large in size that a standard CD cannot hold).

You can burn them to a DVD-R or a CD-R. Just drop the blank disk in your drive and Windows should prompt you. I recommend using a CD-R instead of a DVD because if you are just backing up some pictures, you will be wasting a lot of space on a DVD.

Put in a blank cd, and it will most likely bring up a menu asking what you want to put on it. If not, then go to your pictures folder, highlight the ones you want, and on windows xp, off to the right hand side, you have a list of options, one of which is write these files to a cd. click that and you oughtta be in business!

Just use a standard CD. The DVD type of disks are for movies.

you need a dvr

cds only save music

or you can try a floppy or the best is a cheap USB storage. I think the USB is the best. You can pick one up from staples for about 20 bucks and take it with you anywhere and not have to worry about damage.
