I don't think she was really that pretty. In my opinion, she was kind of ugly.

If you saw the Norma Jean pictures of Marilyn before she remade herself, I could understand this comment. She was the first girl on Playboy magazine, was friends will all the jet-set crowd, had a wonderful figure, and whether it was done with makeup or "work" her face was far from ugly.

I could also understand this comment if you saw the photos of her shortly before her death--she was older, let herself go, and was addicted to pills and alcohol.

Marilyn Monroe was a smart woman--contrary to her "dumb blonde" roles. Her depression and addictions got the best of her--and I'm not certain we'll ever know how she truly died.

My grandmother worked in a New York hotel, and actually served Marilyn and both JFK and RFK breakfast. She said that Marilyn looked filthy, unmade up, and wore jeans. We all took that to mean that she was ":in disguise," but who knows, maybe the pills and booze had already gotten to her.

Probably Jacqui Kennedy, and definitely J Edgar Hoover.

it was a different time. i was watching a movie with a friend and james dean was in it. my friend made a comment like "UCK!" when he took off his shirt because he wasn't an abercrombie model.

in the 50s that bleached white big hair thing was super hot. and women were supposed to be more meaty and child bearing shaped -- big boobs and butt and a really fake scrunched up waist. times change.

That's because you are looking at her with 2007 eyes. Try looking at her with 1955 eyes and you'll see something entirely different. Tastes change. The "hotties" of 2007 will be thought of in the same light in 50 years. Again, tastes change.

She's a classic example of how it may not matter what you look like... but who you know. Or hop into bed with.
I really don't think she was all that great of an actress either.

I think of her when I think of beautiful hollywood actresses of old. I think she definitely had a style all her own. I loved her and I am young, in my 20's.
