Let's say it's lying in a twisted heap on the centerline, it's peaceful little deermouth open in a silent scream of mortal anguish, and if you try to approach it, it begins to flail about...

Get my Glock 9 and put that deer out of it's misery, then shoot one in the air for fun. Hop back into my ride and head straight to the carwash. I only like mud on my 4x4, no blood unless it's from me bumping my head while I'm off roadin'. Yee-haw!

Get out my pistol,shoot it in the head,drag it to the side of the road,disembowel it,put it in the back of my truck,hang it in the garage,remove the skin,cut it into quarters,debone the meat,cook the tenderloins,wrap and freeze the rest.It is the HUMANE and RESPONSIBLE thing to do.

Phone the OPP.They will have someone come and put the deer out of misery and the meat would not be wasted.Hope it doesn't happen to me though.

Unfortunately, in the state of Indiana it is illegal to "put it out of its misery". That can only be done by a law enforcement officer. Then they can issue you a "road kill permit" after it's dead.

Phone the roadkill cafe and see if they answer with "you kill it, we grill it" and then bring it to them
