Russia and Iran have been allies for a while; they have oil deals and Russia is installing a nuclear reactor. Also, Russia is opposed to another war in the Middle East and would veto it in the UN. Selling missiles to the Iranians is simply a way to show their support. Also, note that the missile systems sold are surface - air missiles = air defense complexes that are purely defensive in nature; you can't use them to attack Israel or anyone else. And what do you mean by biding their time?

I think its simply marvelous..!!!

Russia can finally get some Rubles in their pockets and of course Iran is filled with such moderate people. When we invaded Iraq three years ago the Russians, the Germans and the French were opposed to it.

Within the first four days we had already found sophisticated weapons of war from all three countries. Germany alone declared that they were "hunting down the businessmen who sold those weapons illegally to Iraq".

Uhhhh, this is not new,and it's not news.Russia has been the worlds black market for weapons of all kinds since the 70's.Of course while communism was still strong they would only sell to a select few,now it's like a Big Lot's.

I thought the US have inventoried all of them. Maybe those were the ones left on railroad tracks. I think Russia is a shrewd businessman...and it shows how other nations hate the US for meddling with the Muslim world.

I think it's very irresponsible and not in Russia's long term best interest. With all of their troubles with Chechnya, you'd think they'd be smarter about that.

What about all of the surplus military parts that we've sold them? Not that I disagree with that, but c'mon, lets stop scapegoating other people and focus on US!
