My old spare refrigerator died so I thought that I'd just go by a new freezer instead. So I go to Lowes and see all these nice freezers, but a lot of them have locks on them. I know I've seen to many horror movies but all I could think of is "so the food won't get out". So really what's the reason? Is it for dieters?

It's so children can't get into them, have the door shut behind them, and they not be able to get out. Far to many children have died this way.

As many hv said, the locks r to keep children from climbing in and getting stuck and suffocating to death. On that note, if u haven't gotten rid of ur old fridge, PLS remove the door b4 getting rid of it! Whether it's in ur yard or ur garage, kids may get to it and that would b extremely dangerous.

Yup, keeps the kidletts out, and some folks have their chest freezers outside. Don't need any neighbors stealing your ice cream.
