My five-year-old loves playing cards but we're getting bored with the same ones and wanted something new. We currently play Crazy 8, Go Fish, War, Old Maid, and Slap Jack, so it won't get you too far to recommend any of those.

My friends and I spend hours playing Egyptian Rat Screw. It is similar to slap jack except with more rules. Check here for gameplay rules.

From Jax Games - Kings in the Corner

From R&R Games - Flea Circus

Also, any of the Gamewright games (Rat-a-Tat Cat, Slamwich, Mummy Rummy, etc) are all good choices. Fisher Price also has a line of card games out for younger kids which your child may enjoy.

Happy playing!
