Beckham is not being paid 250m by LA. He is being paid 50m if wages for 5years. and the 200m is estimated revenue from his contract with Adidas and Pepsi and 10% of ticket sales. So how much money he makes can either go up or down it is dependant on how much revenue he can generate for the club and how much money he could make for pepsi, through increased sales in the US. and how much MLS L.A Galaxy shirts he can sell for Adidas. SO when you you think about it, it is a good deal for everyone involved. He is making most of the money for the franchise and for himslef.
And Beckham may be past his prime but he is still worth more just in print then some entire MLS teams put together.
And Fabio needs to chill. Clubs are so unfair. He bench the man all season and basically show that he is not part of his plans but then he gets angree when he secures his future. I think Beckham has been a scapegoat whole last year. First he was blamed for england early exit when he was one of the few people who actaully played well. Nothing was said about Lampard and Rooney's massive flop. Now Real Madrid boss bad talking him all over the place. LEAVE BECKS ALONE

He deserves it. He's that popular. However, his guaranteed salary over 5 years is only $50 million. The bulk of his income will come from image rights, which previously he shared with Real Madrid. Check out the link to the article that includes this question and answer: 1. Is Beckham's contract with the Galaxy really worth the reported $250 million? No, and it's not even close. Leiweke refused to discuss the details of Beckham's deal, but league sources confirmed that Beckham's guaranteed salary will be around $50 million over the entire five-year length of the contract. That's hardly chump change, but it's still less than the salaries of a lot of U.S. sports stars.

Do you mean does David Beckham have $250m, or is he worth $250m to LA Galaxy.
Firstly, he probably is worth $250m, with the fortune he earned from playing 10 years of football at manchester United and real Radrid, coupled together with his sponsorship deals.
Secondly, he is undoubtedly worth $250m to LA Galaxy. The hype created by the signing has already multiplied season ticket applications. Ticket sales in LA will go through the roof. David Beckham sells more shirts than any other player alive today. Sponsors will be attracted to LA galaxy because it gives them the first real opportunity to have a major football star together with their brand. Also, remember, they are also getting a world class footballer who, if it wasn't for the England manager attempting to get England into the biggest footballing hole he can, would still be the England captain. Their side has more talent than ever before and this signing sends a message to every other footballer that LA Galaxy are serious about winning the championship.
Overall, he is worth $250m, both himself and to LA Galaxy

The answer is probably yes. The club managers are smart enough to calculate the ROI for getting D.Beckham. He is on his way down as far as skills, but he is a huge star and will generate tons of revenue for his new club (e.g. TV rights, tickets, merchandise, etc).
Although 60 mill (in 5 years) to get Big Country by the Vancouver Grizzlies (NBA) back in 1995 was a complete joke.

The money Beckham was given was not to play soccer. It was to boost the interest of borderline soccer fans into coming to MLS games. Thus far it has worked. A ton of tickets have been sold.
The league was barely making it and now the have gotten a small boost. The question is how long will that boost last and will that boost live up to soccer fans expectations. That remains to be seen.

NOPE...
He's past his prime and a celeb footballer is not going to make the MLS any more popular in the US. The deal might be worth it because the Galaxy own his endorsement rights and he's probably going to do ads for everything.

Yes. The club will recoup more money, than the $250m that they paid for him, purely on the merchandise. When you add in the number of extra people that he will attract to games and, the increase in television money etc. etc. Then Beckham comes cheap.

NO! A guy whos best years are clearly behind him is not worth 250 mil. My question would be, how the heck did the Galaxy come up with 250 mil to give the guy?

Nobody is worth that much money! He's always been about publicity rather than football. He's got a brilliant right foot but he's not steven Gerrard!
