i need to take songs completely off of a burned cd to burn different songs onto it. is this possible using itunes or windows media player? if so, please explain how. thank you

Yes and No

There are basically 3 kinds of blank CD media generally available: CD-R, CD+R, and CD-RW.

CD -R and CD +R are "single write" CDs. Once a portion of the CD is written, it can't be erased and rewritten. You can write "multi-session" on them, adding more data until the CD is full.

CD -RW is a rewritable CD. Which can be written and erased multiple times. After data is read and erased several times, the probabability of disk errors increases so CD-RW isn't recommended for storing critical data. See link below for more info.

If you erase the CD-RW disk using the OS, then your music program will treat it like any new blank CD.
