Simon Cowell is mean to the idol contestants. I believe in constructive criticism, but only to a point. i believe he's taken criticism to a WHOLE new LOW.
I think it's because he's british, and "thinks" he can get away with it

I used to think he was mean AND obnoxious to the contestants, but he knows a good singer when he hears one and at this point in his career with American Idol, people know what to expect from him...if the contestants do have potential, his criticisms only make them better...besides that, he has apologized when he was too harsh, not that often, but he wouldn't be Simon Cowell if he went soft on us....

He is very mean! I can't even watch the show. When it first aired, I did watch it. I was so embarrassed for those poor people.You know that half of them or most of them are poor. They were dealt the wrong cards when it came to life. I see them as less fortunate than others. They are up there trying to fulfill a dream. Yea...some of them are 3 fries short of a happy meal, but,come on everyone deserves at least a little respect. I watched the first auditions and thought well, I wonder how many of these people are going to go try and off themselves. Simon Cowell will get his. You cant treat people like that and get away with it forever. He is a pompous a**

Yes, he is sometimes goes over the limit. But trust me he is the reasons why lots of other people are watching the show. Other judges are just pretended being kind and nice infront of the contestants but right after they left, They are started laughing and made comments. I rather have someone give me his or her opinion or comment infront or directly to me then behind my back even though THE TRUTH IS HURT SOMETIMES. But then so I know to correct the mistake and move on.
