I'm sure teenagers can fall in love but it's usually just infatuation.

Yes, I believe you can be in love as a teenager. Love can be genuine with the young and very special, but your love is a young and impressionable. Remember matters of the heart are so emotional and can cloud your senses, and we can be such fickle creatures. People change as they age and may find that they or you might have other interested and emotional ties that may pull each other in another direction.
The saying love is blind can happen at any age, but it can happen to the young, as they have not experience much of life yet. You know the old saying if I knew then what I know now is so real and true. There are so many experiences for you to explore and so much of life to be a part of.
There have been noted relationships that have lasted a lifetime, but they are rare. Most likely you will have many loves in your life, but always the optimistic, I hope that you find companionship and love that lasts in due time.
I am hoping that you and your friends love smartly to the best you can. We adults have so many times, not done so. Please “out do” us, and have a special and wonderful relationship that you can look back upon when you are older and smile of a sweet memory.

OK, you're in love and age 17. That can happen.
The problem is - where does it go from there?
Example: a 9-year-old boy can drive a car. Not very well and at great risk to himself and others, but he CAN drive the car.
What is missing is maturity and recognition of limitations.
If you want a 9-year-old to drive a car, don't get another 9-year-old to teach him. Need someone who has driven a car for several years, at least.
What else do 17-year-olds who are in love need?
- Source of sufficient income
- Love is a choice and a commitment, not just a feeling
- Some choice of life direction, other than school
- A sense of community and extended family
- Intentional choice to become parents and make sacrifices for their children
- Ability to seek counsel to avoid learning only from their own mistakes

You might be but what you want at 17 probably isn't going to be the same thing that you will want by the time your 20-25. Don't be in a hurry. If you still feel the same at 25, it's probably the lasting kind of love...

I believe you know about love in the way a 17 year old experiences it. Your perception of love and relationships will change as you grow older, but that does not necessarily invalidate what you're feeling now.

I think that you can be in love at that age it just all depends on how long you have known that person and how long you have been going out.
