im in the same boat, believe it or not. Ever since middle school my parents have been ranting on about me going to a good college and that i should try harder in school. im a good student, but just like you my GPA is not that great, and my parents and I always get into fights about my grades. Especially when the report cards come out. In my case though, my entire family is insulting me and critisicing me on my studies, my brother, who is a year younger and has straight A's where i usually got a B or C, constantly makes fun of me. Im taking AP classes, and getting decent grades (B) but it still doesnt satisfy my family. Sometimes i just feel like giving up anf going to the movies or whatever with my friends. But no matter what, even with decent grades, you can easily can into a college. It may not be NYU, UC Berkeley or UCLA but its a college. Just take it one day at a time, and just try your best. What more can you give?

you know there could be legitimate reasons you aren't doing well in school..there are a lot of undiagnosed learning disabilities, ever so subtle, that effect a lot.

My suggestion, be proactive. If you have a counselor at school talk to him or her...let them know you are having difficulties and aren't sure why. See what gets suggested.

Get your friends together to do homework in a group. They don't have to know that it is to help you feed off of their knowledge and study habits.

Most of all, lighten up. You are not your sister, never will be and the most important person who should NOT be comparing you to her is YOU. For right now, you are doing the best you can...but you are going to find ways to do better.

Suck it up when your dad gets mad at you...try not to argue (as hard as that is) it's really only beacuse he cares about you and more than likely never learned the best way to communicate that...which basically means he isn't the best learner either (LOL)

Let me let you in on a little secret....so what if your sister graduated from Standford...it's a high priced piece of paper. Doesn't make her necessarily smart, just means she knows how to read & figured out what the professors wanted from her...so next time she throws anything at you...wing that little bit of information her way...it ought to shut her piehole a while =)

We all go through crap like that. I just graduated HS a semester late because I cut a lot of school. My parents complain about my truancy all the time even though that was a phase I went through about a year and a half ago.

What you have to learn is to live up to YOUR expectations, that is when you'll be truly happy.

Don't get down on yourself your dad probably just wants the best for and wants to live his life through you the way he wish he'd done it, don't take it all on yourself and if a higher education or college is what you want then try harder and go for it if its not just get by and graduate but do graduate...good luck

Dude, if you do well in the last 2 years, you will be fine when it comes to college app. time. They are only really looking at Jr./Sr. year grades, plus if you show you have made a major improvement in academics, that is a major bump.

Remember, you are going to school for YOUR FUTURE. Not your dad's. As far as your sister goes, ignore her.

my advise: Quit screwing around and get your stuff together...

Look on the bright side, you still have 2 and 1/2 years to pull that gpr up and go to college. Do well on the SAT, and youll get in somewhere. It may not be stanford, but it will be something.

The rest of your high school career begins today. What you do tomorrow and the day after and the day after that can be much better than all your yesterdays. I'm guessing though that you might be tired tomorrow...it's getting quite late. Smile and do your best...
