it depends on how you want it to be used as in rules of grammar.
a person.,thing, or event is beneficial to (whom?anything,anyone?) if they have satisfied and met the needs. it's simply more like a supplement. I can't really elaborate too much on my explanation because your question soothes a large array of possible answers. Very broad indeed.
