If it is a plastic cast , that part should be fine- if it just got wet on the outside- it should be fine- if you got the inner lining wet- you may want to try to blow dry it on low- and not burn your self- hopefully you have all your feeling and can tell when it is dry- D

Hello , I am sure they told not to take showers with the cast.
Why? Well now that your cast got water inside, the moisture and cotton will retain that water against your skin and since you you're going to have on for at least 4-6 weeks it will become infected. At first it will itch, then start smelling foul.
Best to have the cast re-done.
It is even more dangerous when you had surgical intervention to the bone.

Uh oh! :)
How wet is it? If it's soggy, you're probably going to need to get it recast, since it won't support very well.
If it just has a few damp spots, just let it dry out, and it should be fine.

If it's a plaster cast, you'll have to get it recast. Go back to where you got the cast on, and they'll redo it. Get well soon!

Once you get it dried you may want to try something like this to keep it dry in the future:
http://www.amazon.com/BathGuard-Adult-Leg-Unit/dp/B0001D2RGQ/sr=8-3/qid=1169188745/ref=sr_1_3/105-2378634-5369259?ie=UTF8&s=hpc
or just get a garbage bag and some tape.
