No one invented metal. All the metals we have today are elements which were discovered throughout history as native elements (eg gold, copper) or by extraction from ores (eg iron, sodium) or they are alloys of those pure metals (eg bronze, steel).

The first metals used were those found in their native form, in other words they are extracted from the earth as metals rather than ore minerals. These are basically gold, silver and copper although the Egyptians had access to meteoric iron which they worked like flint.

Later, people learned how to extract some of the less reactive metals from their ores. These included copper, tin, lead and later iron.

As time went on the technology to extract more reactive metals from their ores became available and these days with cheap electrical power we are able to produce large amounts of aluminium, sodium etc which was impossible until modern industrial processes were developed..

Metal was invented by no one. It is found naturally in earth. Or it was invented by the first man who found it.

I think copper was the first metal used by prehistoric man for anything useful. That pretty much marks the end of the stone age.
