Love is a profound feeling of tender affection for or intense attraction to another. People in love are often considered to have "good" interpersonal chemistry. Love is described as a deep, ineffable feeling shared in passionate or intimate interpersonal relationships. In different contexts, however, the word love has a variety of related but distinct meanings: in addition to romantic love, which is characterized by a mix of emotional and sexual desire, other forms include platonic love, religious love, familial love, and the more casual application of the term to anyone or anything that one considers strongly pleasurable, enjoyable, or desirable, including activities and foods. This diverse range of meanings in a single word is commonly contrasted with the plurality of Greek words for Love, reflecting the word's versatility and complexity.-

The word love is very complex. The following is one definition.
Love is a basic dimension of human experience that is variously conveyed as a sense of tender affection, an intense attraction, the foundation of intimacy and good interpersonal chemistry, willing self-sacrifice on behalf of another, and as an ineffable sense of affinity or connection to nature, other living beings, or even that which is unseen. It manifests itself in feelings, emotion, behavior, thoughts, perception and attitude. It influences, underlies and defines major patterns in interpersonal relationships and self-identification.
There is the love for:
friends
food
clothing
learning
lust
power
fame
money
nature
There's romantic love, puppy love, fickle love.
I believe we must bond with each other before love comes into the picture. Once we bond, love keeps growing from year to year.

It's something primal embedded in our sub-conscious mind in order to ensure the survival of the species. We give it the name love so that we can grasp the idea. We associate love with people, places, things, etc. so that it might have meaning and purpose.

Spouses love each other. (well should love each other anyway)
Then again, cats love mice.
I don't think there is a single answer to that aside from saying you know it when you feel it.

Love is something which, in my opinion, cannot be described in words. Only those who actually feel it will understand it.
