I currently have Virgin Mobile, which charges a steep 25 cents/minute for the first 10 minutes of the day, then 10 cents/minute thereafter. They also have a plan that's 18 cents/minute all the time. Can anyone beat this, and how much do their cell phones cost?

I'd stick with virgin mobile. I had a prepaid services before that charged you when the dang phone was just ringing, insane. If you need more than that you might want to look into the no contract, no credit check service that metro pcs offers. They carrie a monthly fee in my area of $35 for unlimited locals in and out. Or $40 for unlimited long distance calls in and out.

It depends on where in the country you are located. Different areas offer different pre-paid options. if you have U.S. Cellular in your area, they are really excellent for their pre-paid service. I use them and all my incoming calls are free. Verizion has free m2m (mobile to mobile) with other verizon customers. T-Mobile is about the same as tracfone as is net 10. there is another affiliate of t-mobile called i-wireless that is prepaid, which allows you to have unlimited incoming and outgoing minutes for thirty days, but again it all depends on where at in the country you are.
