i have a dell inspiron 6000 laptop on a wireless internet connection. i always have a excellent connection, but i still manage to get ping in the 60s-80s when im playing online computer games, whereas my friends are ranging from 10-20. Is there anyway to lower my ping. it makes it hard to game beause we like to play army games ((such as america's army and medal of honor)), and whenever i go to shoot, my screen lags like crazy and im killed before i can even shoot.

delete programs to free up space?

Most likely the people getting pings of 10-20 are sitting on the same network as the server. Or maybe they are in college and happen to be plugged into a network that has a backbone network connection.

*I want my OC-3...*

When I played Q2 and HL/CS I dealt with about the same ping issue. In my case it was mainly due to the fact that I was on the east coast and most of my clan-mates were on the west coast and typically we played on a west coast server.
I haven't done any gaming for awhile, not that I would now with a satellite connection that has a regular ping averaging about 700.

Check here for some info and tweaking programs that may help some.

Edit: One thing that may be a factor is the graphics card in the laptop. Unless you have a top-notch laptop with a great video card using it's own memory (not sharing system memory), a lag in the system bus caused by the relatively intense graphics requirements of gaming can affect ping times. Make sure you have the latest / best drivers for the video card. You also may try a lower resolution to see if it helps playability.

Your delay is due to the network, it most likely has nothing to do with your computer itself, the disk drive or memory.

A wireless network is slow, and might help you to plug in if you are playing games with people on your local LAN.

You could upgrade your DSL or ISP to a faster rate as well.

Barack Obama's Texas speech must have been a huge problem. He was in his finest suite, Michelle was in a knock out dress and the prompter was loaded. The results started to come in and the "I'm the big winner" speech had to be altered. Just as Hillary did in the beginning--One should never assume.

-Lowere the video setting lower.
-Close all other programs running.
-restart computer.
-get faster internet connection.
-get better proccesor. (pentium core 2 duo).
-Delete programs.
-better graphics card. (ati radeon 1600 256mb) something like that.
-find server with less ping. (often the admin has a slow internet conection which makes everyone elses slower).

hope that helped

use a wired connection. wireless is too slow for gaming. and if you still dont like your speed, upgrade to a higher speed from your isp. For the fastest, you can always get Verizon FiOS.

Start by turning off any internet applications that you don't necessarily need open while gaming (i.e. instant messaging, some web pages, etc.) And it may also be limited by just the connection speed you have, like cable vs. dial-up (though you don't have dialup :P)
