The rankings are not a very good indication of international football I mean the fact is they are not that accurate the system is not perfect my any means. As for Canada qualifying I think the chances are very low but higher than they were in 2006 because Canada is beggining to develope some young player like David Edgar of Newcastle and Atiba Hutchinson of FC Copenhagen and Julian De Guzman of Feyenoord in but he might play for Holland because he also has a dutch passport. Canada is developing slowly in football but Toronto FC joining the MLS should also help. There are only 3 sports from CONCACAF and Canada will have a tough time qualifying for 2010.
Cheers

Hello ,
i think the rankings don't matter . Before the world cup Czech republic was third , Mexico was fourth and germany was 19 .And we certainly know that the rankings are not right .
I am against the rankings , but i hope the revised format is better !
Now too Nilgeria is at no 9 and they are definetly not one of the best teams , and teams like portugal are so behind .
And no one can replace Brazil .
The rankings are very unfair !
Well soccer is a funny game and there is every chance that canada can qualify , just if the sport (soccer) is given more importance. we don't know anything about the next four years.
I hope India at no 157 qualify!

Canada has a chance to qualify as they are above Trinidad and Tobago's 87 position and they qualified in Germany :-)
The rankings do not mean much - going into the WC Czech Republic, Netherlands, Argentina and Spain were all ranked above France and Italy
They have always under-ranked Italy as Italy is likely to play for a draw rather than risk a loss. They also do not take minor games seriously - extending even to group stages of the WC. They two things mean it is hard for them to get points outside big tournament years.

Even with the period they look at being reduced from 8yrs to 4, it still seems a askew. It's probably fair in relation to the time frame but not the form we have seen over the past 12 months. I think people would be happier if they dropped it further to 2 yrs and it might reflect the form of teams a little more accurately.
As for Canada qualifying, I have learned never to say never!!

I think Germany should be moved at least two positions forth! And about Canada, I really don't care about that team.

i doubt that Canada will qualify to the WC...not that i hate them, but their ranking is low as well as their performance...there are other great teams that have a greater opportunity to qualify for the WC
