Centrino is a branding name for a combination of CPU, chipset, and wireless, it is NOT the name of a processor. The current Centrino platform using either a Core Duo or a Core 2 Duo, so you need to find out which of those two the one your are looking at uses, it is very possible it is using a Core 2 Duo, meaning the two processors are the exact same.

EDIT: The guy that answered before me is wrong, as like I said, the current Centrino uses either Core Duo or Core 2 Duo.

Centrino is basically a brand that intel uses for laptops with all intel parts...intel wireless, intel processor and intel chipset...in the latest platform Centrino is single core and Centrino duo is dual core..the only ones that comes at speeds of 1.66ghz is Intel Core Duo and Core Solo and of course Core 2 Duo...the difference is the Core Duo and Core Solo is based on the same design as the Pentium M while Core 2 Duo is redesigned...its 20% faster and processes information differently

The Centrino is a mobile cpu, has integrated wireless, is built on older technology, hence is slower.

The core 2 duo comes in both flavors mobile and desktop.
It's Intel's new architecture and is faster than the Centrino.

The core 2 Duo has a wider bus, has 2 cores and has a larger shared cache.
