Maybe to one generation, but music is subjective. The greatest song of all time is impossible to decide on. To one generation it will be one song, and to another it will be something else. And record sales don't mean anything, especially with downloads. So no an American Idol will not be able to release the number one song of all time.

I wouldn't doubt it. Daughty was the fastest selling rock album that came out, just released a few weeks ago.
