If there were no police, there would be no way to enforce laws, criminals would run rampant, gangs would form territories, and there would be a struggle for power. Once the struggle for power was won and somebody was in a position of supreme power, in order to maintain power, there would need to be police. So here we are. I think it's relatively nice to have the kind of justice system we have.

It's more unfair if you get raped or killed because there are no cops to stop people from breaking the law. That's why police were invented, because SOMEONE had to be given authority to act to protect the average person from people who will do whatever they want otherwise. The police are the ones who are accepted by the community as a whole as the enforcers of the community's rules.
If you don't want to get arrested, then don't break the rules.

Depends if personal bias is involved. If a COP arrests you because you "look like the kind of guy/woman who's bad", without any evidence, that's blatantly unfair.
For example one cop thought my voice sounded slightly slurred, mimicked my voice, and immediately tried to arrest me for a DWI despite my having stood on one foot for 2 minutes in a row (I was obviously not drunk). I told the COP "if you don't have any chemical evidence or bystanders on your side you had better believe I will exercise my right to counter-sue for this" and they backed off.
On the news I also heard one Autistic kid, who was walking home with a badly coordinated walk, was beaten severely and arrested for "looking stoned" when he had no drugs whatsoever.
The kind of police who will arrest you out of pure personal spite are the ones you have to watch out for. But, on the whole, the law is the law and Police can't just step in and make their own "laws"...so it is still best overall that they have the authority (IE they save many more lives than ruin).

it's definately not unfair. Cops are employeed to enforce the law and arrest people who break it it's just a job. Any citizen also has the right to make a citizens arrest of someone they see breaking the law.

I have the authority because I am empowered by the state to make arrests.
Most people getting arrested think it is unfair. It's OK, I understand.

We, the public, give a cop the right to arrest people. I know a load of people can't stand them, but the majority of people would rather have safe neighborhoods and regulated streets than chaos. I mean, maybe not everyone, but quite a few people. Our taxes (and parking tickets) pay for them, after all. And we elect the local sheriff.

The government gives police the right to arrest you to enforce the laws of the land. This is a power the executive branch wields to enforce law given to it by the legislative branch and upheld by the judicial branch. If there was no one to enforce the law, there would be no equity or justice under the law.

He is an agent of the government and has been trained in the law and and the enforcement of it and is just doing his/her job enforcing the law. If you don't like being arrested, stop breaking the law!

Their job is to keep order. Keeping order with laws, break laws go to jail. Otherwise, the cities, towns would be over run with crime. That sounds worse, the having cops.
