Is it legal to consume edible substances that may contain such chemicals found in illegal substances of some easily obtainable "herbs"?

Of course it is not. I presume you are talking about weed which can be put into biscuits etc. as a "flavouring" and if someone has told you it wont hurt you or effect you go take a drug test after you have eaten it and I bet it shows up as a prohibited drug. As for poppy seeds you would have to eat an enormous amount for it to have any effect on you. There are also some mushrooms that you should not eat as they also have a bad effect on you and are classed as a drug but not only that some can be fatal or do you want to dice with life and your health. Grow up and smell the flowers there is a lot more to life than trying to see how high you can get and don't listen to your friends telling you that a bit wont hurt you as all people react differently to different substances and you don't want friends like that.

All depends on which herbs, and just how illegal they are. There's nothing illegal about poppy seeds, even though opium's out. If you're underage, it's illegal to have dandelion wine, but you can eat all the dandelions you like. Cannabis, unfortunately, no. This plant isn't divided into legal and illegal parts or components. The whole thing is off-limits, and if you have a herbal remedy that has any in it, don't tell me...

It would end up just like the American prohibition period when they tried to ban alcohol! Ha ha! Good luck! It would quickly become contraband and the criminals would get rich selling it underground. And then the gov't would not get its tax cut, so it would never fly!
