How cheap? I purchased my Palm Tungsten E on ebay for 80 dollars and it will view .pdf files. I'm sure there are some for less, anyway, 80 is cheaper than the 200 minimum you would have to invest to get a laptop that will respond as quick as a palm. Time saved is mostly in boot up, as there is none with Palm OS.

Read PDFs as in reading in unconverted desktop PDF? Tungsten E is indeed the cheapest to get away with for doing exactly above, find a program call PalmPDF dont use the reader bundled in the install CD, however E can only deal with lightly imaged PDFs the readme in PalmPDF suggests a comfortable level dealing with heavy imaged PDF is 400 MHz and on that note it's Tungsten T3 I bought a defective missing accessories one off eBay almost a year ago for 120 bucks worked great.
