Still spend the money on a big wedding or use it for a down payment on a house?
If you are engaged and had a choice waht would you do?'
We used the money to fix up our house and had a small ceremony that we did ourselves, had a great time and memories

The money that we used for the fixing the house and the small intimate wedding was money that both my husband and I had saved. It was not given to us. That is for John L.
My point in the survey is that almost everyone said they would save the money for a house. The price of weddings these days has skyrocketed, I hope someone is advising these couples to forgo the large excessive wedding and save for a house.

Thirty-one years after the big wedding, I'm older and wiser. I would definitely NOT have the big wedding and use the money more wisely for the down payment on a house. Besides, most people hate/dread attending weddings.

I did both (yup, been married twice) and while the BIG wedding was fun and all about the show, the smaller intimate wedding meant a whole lot more to everyone involved. Plus, I have heard so many brides at big weddings say that they were unable to visit with everyone that they had invited...just not enough time! What do you want to do on your wedding day? spend your time running your butt off trying to see everyone who is there or get more quality time with the ones who count?...

hold off the wedding and use the money for a down payment. if you wait longer, you can save up and afford the big wedding you wanted, just at a postponed date

I'm glad I had the wedding I did. We spent about 10,000 and it was the best party of our lives. People still talk about it. Eventually we did buy a house, so it all worked out well.

You made a great choice! I had the big wedding, then moved into a rent house.

The house can be divided when you get your divorce. The wedding is gone forever once its over. Sorry, just kidding. The house is the wiser choice, really.

I am a practicle person; I would spend money on an investment (such as a house - resale value) the for a one day venture which yeilds no returns.
