if you have nero 6 and above, do it in Nero Recode

your other choice, is to put the avi onto the dvd as a data disc, under nero > new compilation.

if you have a dvd-player which supports divx / xvid playback you can view on on TV

Nero Vision will allow you to burn avi files to dvd, giving you options to make menus and chapters. It converts it to the proper format for you, simple to use. Not a quick process, it takes about an hour. but my pc is pretty fast, dualcore cpu - 2GB mem, might take up to realtime depending on your specs. that is how it will be with most programs that do what you need though.

The software I use is DVD santa. It is the easiest software I have ever used. Not only will it burn DVD's, but it will format the Avi to enable it to burn. You can find it in a search.
