I'm new to college, and I missed my first day of classes due to my alarm picking a really bad day to stop working.
Other then showing up for class tomorrow(dont worry I WILL be there) what should I do?

Make sure to ask all your professors for the syllabus in your next class. If they don't have a copy with them, they'll probably be glad to bring one during the next class. Ask a friend or the person sitting next to you if you missed anything important. Review the first chapter or the first section of the text book. This is probably what the teacher asked you to do anyways. Also, check out the teacher's personal webpage provided by the university, as this often has information for students in each of his or her classes. If your school has blackboard, check out the blackboard site for each class you missed.

First, talk to your professor. You don't have to give your excuse though (because it's pretty lame), but do admit to missing the first day of class. Ask for any handouts that were given. Something like the course outline and password/url for the course website should have been given! Then talk to some fellow students, see if you can copy notes, promise to do the same if they miss a class, so exchange emails or contact information. It would also be a good idea to read the first chapter or two from your text book.

Turn up tomorrow - find a friendly looking person and ask if you can photocopy their notes and any handouts. I've done this when I missed a class and when the person I copied from missed a class she copied from me in return. Always good to find yourself "Study Buddies" in each class - you'll get more out of it if you have someone to debate/discuss stuff with and someone as back up if you miss a class. Yes I know I sound like a total suck and swotty geek but really I learned this the hard way and really WISHED I'd done more study rather than by actually doing it XD

Stay on top of the course outline. Do your reading, study, take notes in class if necessary (unless they just teach straight out of the text) and keep up to date with everything. Also, if you find you're having trouble, seek help with Teaching Assistants, the prof's office hours, or email them depending on their preference. Make sure you have specific questions and concerns to ask about.

Look over the first few chapters if you are in a University. If you're in a community college, don't worry.

It's ok to absent on the first day. It's some sort of an acquaintance period. The next days are what you should be ready of. =)
