After 3 weeks, the uterine lining is normally completely healed and a new endometrium regenerated. At this point, most normal activities can be resumed, although strenuous physical activity is usually restricted until after 6 weeks.

In normal circumstances, women can resume sexual activities whenever they feel like it. Most women won't feel like it for a while, and perineal lacerations generally take 4-6 weeks to completely heal. Even then, intercourse may be uncomfortable, due to residual irritation around any laceration sites, vaginal dryness due to the natural estrogen suppression after delivery, or psychological factors surrounding resumption of intercourse. Patients can be reassured that this is common, temporary, and very much improved with the use of water-soluble lubricants, such as KY Jelly or Surgilube.

If you start having a odor or a temp call your doctor but I think all is fine
Congrats on the baby

Your stitches do not take 6 weeks to heal, the doctors just recommend you wait that long because that is when your checkup is and they can make sure that all is well. You know your body better than anyone and if you felt the need to have sex knowing that you had just pushed a baby out of your vagina then by all means, have sex. I personally found the fact that a huge baby just came out of that hole a complete turn off for a couple of months but each person is different. If you have an infection you will know when the area is swollen and red and burning. You will be sore because again, a baby just came out of there.

You are probably fine. I don't think the concern is infection, but the incision site and stitches. If you just feel a little bit sore, you are more thank likely OK. I just hope you used protection because it is very possible to get pregnant again!

i think that if you think your episiotomy was healed up good then it was okay..if you start hurting really bad...just let doc know... i'm sure if something was wrong you would be feeling it...and know it will be sore when you have sex for a few times after you gave birth

I know how you feel about not being able to wait, I only waited 2 weeks & I got pregnant again! So I think the only worry you should have is wether or not your pregnant again!

I've heard of a woman who died b/c she didn't wait 6 weeks to have sex, she only waited 3-4 weeks. Something about internal bleeding or her organs were so sensitive inside that it ruptured and she bled a lot, internally, but didn't know she was bleeding. I'm sure you'll be fine but it would suck to die just to have sex!

I don't think there should be any worry of infection as much as tearing your incision, soreness or bleeding. You should be fine....it's best to try and wait though...

What is with people having sex right after giving birth??? Did your kids just fall out or what??? Give your body a break, and who on this earth could even want to have sex that soon? Please, think of your vagina, cervix, etc. Be kind to it. HAsn't it gone through enough???

They tell you to wait for a reason.
