We keep seeing beautiful young teachers who are having sex with their willing young male students, and somehow these teachers' crimes do not seem so horrific as when a male adult teacher does the same or less to a willing young female student.....it is still statuatory rape - and the same crime......double standards?

Lacy,

you are right about my choice of words. The double standard is really layered here. The boys who are raped are not being treated as victims, but rather as "boys will be boys, and they were just doing what boys do." They were willing to participate in the acts.

But the girls who were willing to sleep with or blow their teachers are portrayed as innocent little girls with pigtails and bobby sox.

The truth of the matter is this: The fallout from over a century of feministic rhetoric has not only contributed to the overwhelming OPEN sexual perversion in this country, but has also kept the 'victim no matter what' banner flying over the heads of women/girls and the 'he knew what he was doing, that sexual pervert' banner hanging over the heads of men/boys.

Double, double.

Sorry if my choice of words was a little too brash.

Baba,

Why does the truth hurt you so badly? Or maybe it is just because you can't read well so you get confused. I can't figure you out. You whine like a feminazi, but talk like a man. Do you have to peek in your britches each day to check your gender?

And Babyba, FYI - I am a woman who is General Manager of a mid-sized construction company pulling in almost six figures (twice what my hubby makes)- a woman making it big in a VERY male dominated industry - but I didn't get here by puking up feminist rhetoric because I don't believe in any of it. It is a bunch of garbage that is destroying the moral fabric of this country. (And I did not show anyone my boobs, nor did I blow the boss. Oops, another double standard that most feminists will use to get what they want.) AND, my husband is probably one of the happiest guys in the world, because I am always a woman, his delicate little flower serving him with love and tenderness and a big smile on my face.

I don't agree with your wording, ALL of these boys and girls are victims. Period. (I get that your intention was to stress the double standard, but it's as insulting to those female victims as the portrayal of those boys "wanting it" is to the male victims). The simple fact of their very young age, and the position of power these teachers have over them, means that they are victims. It's funny though, when I talk to men and women about this, ALL the women thinks it's disgusting, and want to see these women behind bars (yes, feminists, too). A lot (not all) of the men will chuckle, and say something like "That kid got lucky!" or even "If only I could've gotten that lucky!" Why is this? I think these women getting lighter sentences and it not being viewed as being as "serious" is horrendous...I would truly, truly love to see these women get the max sentence...these boys deserve full justice. And yes, it is a double standard that exists in our society, but I don't think it's one that feminism created.
And BTW, I'm honestly not trying to offend, but do you think you could have had your career, with comparable pay, fifty years ago? Don't you think that feminism made this possible? Not that feminism did it "for you", but made it possible for women in general to move into a male dominated work force and earn a good wage.

Who do you think creates those double standards? Do you think it is the boys' mothers, who are probably shocked and disgusted by it, or do you think it is our society's attitudes toward male sexuality (men always want sex, "can't rape the willing," men who wish they had the opportunity to sleep with their teacher)? If anything, I think it's women who are horrified by the thought of sleeping with a 14-year old boy, not men. I am generalizing, but that is simply our society's attitudes.

If the "beautiful young teacher" was an "overweight old teacher," do you think men would have the same attitude?

So if feminism is the "garbage that is destroying the moral fabric of this country," why is it that most feminists would be opposed to teachers having sex with young male students, and most men - or, our society's mostly anti-feminist attitude - would be envious or congratulatory toward that student?

Further, I don't know what your remark about showing people your boobs or blowing the boss has to do with double-standards held by feminists. That kind of behaviour goes against any feminist theory or discourse I have ever heard of. It is one thing to insult a discipline because you genuinely disagree with it, but it is another to be absolutely clueless and unaware of its teachings, but insult it anyway....

Rape is not about a victim being slutty..Your question is implying a girl deserved to be raped because she acts or dresses in a way someone may find slutty. Rape is about power and control. A man who rapes a woman isn't raping her because of how she acts. He is raping her because he is inadequate in some way or other. Same goes to any female who might take advantage of a younger male. They are seducing these boys for the power and control of it all. Neither one is right and I do believe there is a double standard but your wording of the question suggests your own double standard also.

I was wondering about this, too. It is weird how much of a double standard there is, but almost everyone I know feels this way (even me, though I know it is illogical).

I guess we have some sort of idea or prejudice about the coping mechanisms of the different genders at the age. Maybe that girls cannot handle sex at a young age as well as boys can. I know it isn't true, but you are right, it is a built in prejudice that does exist.

It is a problem with our court systems that they are not consistent in their sentencing.

Teachers have a position of trust in our society and in our schools, and for ANY teacher to have sexual relations with a student is moraly and criminally wrong. I also think it is disgusting that the courts and the media treat women offenders as though they aren't real criminals, when they in fact are! It is absolutely double standards!

a truly emancipated society would not make this distinction. rape is rape. it's weird to think that men are the ones who need emancipation now to have the guts to say:"i've been raped." the political correctness in this day and age turns into a nightmare for men and boys who have been used. other males poking fun of them, females who don't believe that a male even can be raped. if we believe in equal rights, it's about time to apply them. in any case, truly regardless of gender, religion, race, sexual preference and the need to be politically correct.

Who are these "slutty little girls"? Nothing like blaming the victim, right? Boys like you have been projecting onto their victims the reasons for their own abominable behavior since the dawn of time anyway. Are you proud of yourself? What do you know about rape anyway? Rape is about control and violence. "Willing" oversexed teenagers are not in the same category. How is it you don't know this? Is it that you really don't know - or that you are too biggoted to admit it? Why asked such stupid and inflammatory questions if you don't like the tone of the answers you receive?

Thank GOD you are in no position of authority - flipping burgers at your station (in life) you can't hurt anybody. Expect to remain there forever.

I have three children. If a teacher were to rape one of them, I'd go to sears and buy a shotgun. Male, female, pretty, ugly, won't matter.

Again with the rape thing. Isn't anybody else getting tired of this?

Yes, having sex with minors - regardless of their sex - is wrong. That's why there are laws against it. Children forced to experienced sex before they're ready are all scarred and require help to heal from it.

End of story? Please?

Dude the fact that the hot ones get more media attention is just more media bias. It's a more sensational story. Sure there are a few that were models, like McElhenney and Pamela Rogers (Frankly I don't think Rogers is that good looking, she looks skanky), but of the ones pictured here (which includes those two):

http://www.nbc10.com/slideshow/news/8670741/detail.html?qs=;s=10;p=news;dm=ss;w=400

At least 80% of them are real barkers. No. 10 is an excellent Andrea Dworkin lookalike.

The double standard exists for all of them though, of course.
