Spray WD-40 everywhere they might land. They can't stand the smell. You'll have to climb up on ladders to get to the rafters, but those babies will go away!

I hate pigeon poop!

Are the horses up in the rafters too? I have shot at least 600 out of the top of barns in my life time. I used a 22 , with shorts. Make sure the pigeon is between you and a rafter, don`t be shooting holes in the roof. Getting rid of the dead pigeons is more trouble than killing them. I had a friend that could get several a day with a bean shooter, but I was never that good. I was better at window lights.

I know this answer does not suit the bird lovers, but they are not the one living with the pigeon poop and the cooing.

some people arn't very helpfull. You need to exclude them or make perches undesirable. A large barn with many beam for them to roost would be difficult to block the perches. If its not too big the chicken wire or make a v'ee of 2 boards placed over the beams the sharp edge hurts their feet. if the roost is against a wall place a single board at 45 degrees between the beam and wall so there is no roost.

I again the barn is not too large or not too porous you could attempt to block entrances (unless they are coming through the door which you can't close. Gaps or hay shoots could be blocked with chicken wire. If they have a way to get in that you can close or block for a few weeks they might find another place to park.

getting a barn owl will make them scram! The pigeons don't know the difference between a real one and a plastic one. And, they won't hang around to find out.

Wrap the rafters with poultry netting (chicken Wire). Spray it with WD-40. On ledges, use powdered vitamin c. They hate it on their feet.

Plastic owls with bobble heads work sometimes and also really good fake rubber snakes attached close to their roosts sometimes work. they are afraid of both.

Call an exterminator. Or get cats! You can also buy a repeater trap to trap them.

The cheapest way would be to catch them rascals, and then cook 'em in a pot. HmmHmm, tasty little critta's.
