Did you know that you can google OEM and buy windows XP with SP2 really cheap. The Supreme Court of the USA said it is legal now. They were doing it before now you can buy the OEM disk, you do not get the fancy package and stuff but a legal disk to update.
That way you may use the newer antivirus programs then.

AVG Free Antivirus is compatable with Windows 98, I have it on another computor, it just was updated to 7.5 with no problems. SpyBot Search and Destroy is a software to catch spyware and is just as important as Antivirus program.

Yes, you do. Spybot is good, but is not an antivirus program. SPbot searches for spyware and malware, dialers, things like that.
A Virus is different. It is definately not a bad idea to have 2 or even 3 spyware scanners. I use 3, as one is integrated with my firewall, otherwise would just have 2.

Yes, You must have an AV. You also need to upgrade to XP. Windows has dropped all support for 98s. You are living in the past, my friend. Most software products also no longer support Windows 98. You need the patches and other upgrades from Microsoft to keep away the bad guys. (trojans, key loggers, etc.)

Avira AntiVir own has the utmost detection price of all loose anti-viruses. that is even more effective perfect than maximum paid ones. I used to apply AVG, and concept it became tremendously good, till I were given hit with an endemic, and regarded for a more effective perfect one. I study some position that examined a group. I forget in the present day the position it became. i'm wondering pc international ... yet no longer helpful. Even after operating Malwarebytes, it truly is large for searching stuff others bypass over, Avira found more effective stuff on my gadget.

Spybot S&D is an anti-spyware program, which is very different from an antivirus program. Antivirus programs look specifically for viruses, trojan horses and worms.
An anti-spyware program looks for spywares, adwares, etc.
AntiVir ( http://www.free-av.com/down/windows/antivir_workstation_win7_en_h.exe ) works with Windows 98 as well, though I'm unsure if it has an email scanning engine.
