Cut out caffeine, alcohol, and greasy, fatty foods from your diet altogether. Elevate the head of your bed, on wood blocks or some other method so the gastric juices from your stomach don't go up into your esophagus. Lose some weight if you have a large abdomen pushing up against your stomach and diaphragm. Don't take anti-inflammatory meds like Ibuprofen.
You really should see a doctor to make sure you are having simple heartburn and not GERD. Repeated splashing of stomach acid up into the esophagus can lead to cancer of the esophagus. Better to prevent than to try to treat once the damage is done.

Raise the head of the bed 6 inches as advised. Don't eat or drink anything except water after sundown. Take Gaviscon (the best for heartburn) if you experience symptoms.

-Make a list for a few days of the things (food and beverages) that you consume a few hours before bed. Drink more water in the hours before bedtime. I used to get heartburn real bad because I drank alot of O.J through out the day. When I stoped, it went away.

You could possibly have gastritis. Suggest you google it to find out more about it. If it is gastritis, Maalox liquid is helpful, or Pepcid AC. If symptoms don't do away in a few days better see a doctor.

Two things..
a) Eat sufficiently before bed time.
b) Your sleeping position. Read up on the right sleeping position, believe it or not sleeping on the right side or left side does make a differenct.
