I have an Atari 2600 that i plug in with normal AV components but when I turn it on with a game in the screen is totally black. I need some fixing help. Thanks.

Are you plugging it into a composite input, or an RF input in your AV system? The cable on the 2600 has an RCA connector, but it actually outputs a signal like you'd get over your cable line (video & audio combined, modulated on channel 2 or 3 depending on the switch).

Pick up a coaxial to RCA adapter: http://www.atariage.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=21_28&products_id=42

Or, modify your 2600 to output s-video: http://www.cheeptech.com/2600mods/2600mods.shtml

Try to get another unit, maybe via Goodwill or eBay...
