The paint is probably non-toxic, but there's a risk he could damage his teeth if he chews on the bars too much. How much time does he spend doing that? If he does it all night, or for hours at a time you should probably consider moving him to a big tank or aquarium, instead of a cage.
Also, if his cage is too small he may be doing that because he doesn't have enough space to run and climb. Mice are very curious, intelligent and active and so they really love to have alot of toys - try giving him empty cardboard boxes from things like tea or cereal (so they're safe if he chews on them), and paper towel and toilet paper rolls to use as tunnels.
I wouldn't use the bad-tasting product since it might hurt him if he swallows it - mice have very sensitive digestive systems.
It's good you play with him and that he has some toys - make sure he's able to use his wheel, and that it's not too small - sometimes the wheel's diameter is too small for the mouse and he has to bend his back uncomfortably to run in it.
Good luck to you and your little friend!

Rodents just like to gnaw. It's instinctive. The paint on the cage is non-toxic. But if you don't like the noise, you could get "Bitter Apple" or a similar product, and put it on the cage bars. That will make them taste bad.
Make sure he has stuff to gnaw on, though.

He is chewing it to make sure his teeth don't grow through his scull. Give him a 5 inch stick of cardboard weekly or untill he runs out.

The paint shouldnt hurt him. He's probly just trying to grind down his teeth because they are growing. They all do it. Try giving him one of those woods sticks from pet co or any other pet store. THEY COME FLAVORED NOW!!!!!!!!

He's chewing on his cage looking for freedom. You might consider giving him some.

He smells that other male mouse in the other cage. He wants to rumble and show the other guy he's the King-Of-The-House.
