Tricky, A.D began at zero. He lived 60 years of that, but he was 70 when he died, which means he lived 10 years before AD occured, so he was born 10 BC

He was born 70 years before the year 60 AD
He was born 69 years before the year 59 AD
He was born 68 years before the year 58 AD

Keep going

He was born (70 - x) years before the year (60 - x) AD

Keep going

He was born 11 years before the year 1AD

Now, you need to remember that the year before 1AD was 1BC, and _NOT_ the year zero (which doesn't exist!)

He was born 10 years before the year 1BC
He was born 9 year before the year 2BC

etc until you get to the year of his birth

HINT: The answer 10BC is wrong!

Years on the Christian calender are like a number-line with no zero. So you have to go back one year further than you expect.

If he was born in 1BC then he would be 1 in 1AD and 60 in 60AD.

He was therefore born ten years before that, in 11BC.
