Some of these aswers are pointing you in the wrong direction.

Goldfish do best in a monospecies tank (having at least 10 gallons a piece for fancy varieties, and 20 gallons for commons. The two should not be mixed) But if you want more than these you can add corydoras catfish (so long as they aren't small enough for the goldies to swallow) Dojo/Weather loaches, or large snails, Rubberlip or Bristlenose Pleco.

** NEVER keep a common pleco with goldfish. Eventually they will suck their slime coats off.

None. I had a 55 gallon tank of 3 goldies and they did just fine. Goldfish waste is very toxic to other fish and you will soon find that the other fish just simply cannot survive. Goldfish are cold-water fish. They don't really require heaters (unless you want one) whereas other common pet store fish require constant, warm temperatures (Guppies, Mollies, Tetras, Danios, etc.).
Just invest some love and care into your goldfish and your tank will be complete without needing another other species. :-)

Really no kind of fish will be good with goldfish because goldfish get really big. I used to have a goldfish and we had a 10 gallon tank but we had to put it into a 20 gallon tank because of how big it was. Goldfish will eat any kind of fish. SORRY!

Goldfish are cold water, and there are not too many species for sale at pet stores for cold water. They can survive in tropical tanks, but that is hit or miss. They are gentle and hardy so you can put them with just about anything that wont eat them, but in a tropical tank you are taking your chances.

What is the tank size? Minnows, swordtails, and loaches are possibilities. Never keep sucker fish, tetras, platies, or barbs with goldfish.

goldfish are good with other goldfish -- there are lots of varieties to choose from. i have bamboo shrimp in with my goldfish and they like it fine. they are quite interesting. when they are happy they glow a reddish color and aren't the bamboo color that they get their name from. they have little filters on their front legs that they catch stuff in and eat. you could go with white cloud minnows or ghost shrimp too.
